GO Investment Partners was honoured to have hosted a session at this year’s ICGN in Tokyo.  Our session considered the power of Trust in Shareholder Engagements in Japan.  It was well received and participants gave positive feedback.

Our panelists included Satoshi Taguchi, Director, Senior VP JXTG Holdings, Inc.; Yoshikazu Maeda our Director of Responsible Investment at Governance for Owners Japan; Kazunori Suzuki, Professor of Finance, Graduate School of Business and Finance at Waseda University and the session was chaired by Kana Inagaki, Tokyo Correspondent of the Financial Times.

We were fortunate that Professor Suzuki was able to share with the audience some preliminary findings of the joint research on “The power of confidential engagement: comparison with public activism”  he has carried out together with Marco Becht (Universite’ Libre de Bruxelles), Julian Franks ( London Business School) and Hideaki Maiyajima ( Waseda University). The research is based on a unique analysis of private engagements carried out by Governance for Owners Japan between 2009 and 2018 and is broadly supportive of our non-confrontational engagement style.

We will provide further information and release the study when it is finalised in the latter part of the year.  If you would like to see the preliminary study, please contact us.
