It is with great sadness that GO has to announce that Peter Butler, Founder Partner and Chairman of  GO, passed away on Wednesday 3rd November following a short illness. After two heart operations in late September, he was discharged from hospital at the beginning of October and has been at home with his wife Linley and their children, Simon and Rachel, and our thoughts are clearly with them all at this time.

I had the pleasure of working with Peter for the entire 25 years of his career in the investment industry, from his recruitment by Hermes in 2006, through the establishment of the Hermes Focus Funds business and our departure from Hermes in 2004 to create and develop GO. At every stage Peter’s drive to develop and implement new ideas was critical to their success. Peter played a pivotal role in the creation and development of the five different Focus Funds launched at Hermes and GO, most recently the hugely successful TMAM-GO Japan Engagement Fund. Alongside these investment funds Peter somehow found the time to play a significant role in developing the global corporate governance agenda.  At a time when most people are settling into retirement he was a frequent visitor to Tokyo to ensure that our joint venture with Tokio Marine Asset Management continued its successful development.

In recent years Peter also played an important role in a number of sporting and charitable activities in his native Essex. This work will continue through the charitable foundation he established.

His energy and drive will be sorely missed at GO.
